John Terry on Bournemouth shortlist to become next boss and backed by Harry Redknapp, as Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira also in running for job

John Terry has the backing of Harry Redknapp to become Bournemouth manager, with the Aston Villa assistant understood to be on the club’s shortlist to replace Jason Tindall.

The Cherries sacked Tindall on Wednesday just six months after he stepped up from assistant to succeed Eddie Howe, following a run of four straight Championship defeats.

Former Chelsea and England captain Terry is thought to be eager to move into management, having been number two to Dean Smith at Villa since October 2018.

And Redknapp, who managed Bournemouth between 1983 and 1992, thinks Terry is well suited to the role at the Vitality Stadium.

“Well I think John would be a fantastic manager, I’ve said it from when I first really got to know him and saw how professional he was,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“Even just being around him at different things I’ve done like charity games, I managed a game at Old Trafford one day when John played.

“His professionalism and just everything about him I just think given the opportunity he could be a really top class manager.

“If I was a chairman looking for a manager now, John Terry would be top of my list.

“He’s at Aston Villa but he may not be interested. I wouldn’t know what his long-term ambitions are but I’m sure he would want to get into management.

“If you want to get into management, I couldn’t think of a better club than Bournemouth. It really is a good, well run club, good players. It’s all there for somebody to come in and make a big success of it.”

While Terry is a potential option for Bournemouth, Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is also being linked with the job.

The Frenchman has managed New York City FC and Nice and is currently out of work, with his sights on a role in England.

The Mail say Vieira is among the candidates, along with Terry, to take charge of Bournemouth.

Jonathan Woodgate, only appointed to the coaching staff at the start of this week, has been placed in temporary charge as the club’s hierarchy begin their search for a new permanent boss.
