Having previously said a 5-4 scoreline was ‘disgraceful’ while aiming a dig at Arsenal back in 2004, Jose Mourinho has insisted he enjoyed elements of Tottenham’s FA Cup defeat to Everton.
Spurs looked good for the early 1-0 lead at Goodison Park but the match descended into a helter skelter clash before half-time.

Three goals in seven minutes saw the Toffees turn the fifth round tie on its head before Erik Lamela made it 3-2.
Another three goals in the second period saw the match reach the final whistle at 4-4, sending the game to extra-time where Bernard netted a fine winner, catching out a static Spurs defence.
“5-4 is a hockey score, not a football score,” Mourinho said all those years ago about a Gunners’ win over Tottenham almost 20 years ago.
“In a three-against-three training match, if the score reaches 5-4 I send the players back to the dressing rooms as they are not defending properly.

“So to get a result like that in a game of 11 against 11 is disgraceful.”
However, in his post-match interview with BT Sport, he revealed he’d seen good things in the FA Cup loss over a gruelling 120 minutes.
“I enjoyed it, and I didn’t enjoy it,” Mourinho said.
“I enjoyed the way we played when we had the ball. Since the first minute, immediately a great situation, Lamela header, good save by [Robin] Olsen, and that was just the beginning.
“We had the ball, we created, we had a great dynamic, great movement. Scored goals, created more chances. [Showed] great character to fight against incredible mistakes but attacking football only wins matches when you don’t make more defensive mistakes than what you create.
“We scored four goals and four goals was not enough.”
And the Spurs manager admitted all their wounds on Merseyside were self-inflicted.
He added: “It hurts everyone from our team because the feeling is that we played really well when we had the ball. We were brave, we created. We were the best team winning 1-0 and suddenly, in five minutes it was boom, boom, boom. Mistake, mistake, mistake. Goal, goal, goal. You fight back, you go again. More mistakes. You fight back again.
“That was the mouse and the cat. The mouse was our defensive mistakes and the cat was us trying to compensate that by playing very well and scoring goals but it was not enough.”
