Cameroon will be without Eric Choupo-Moting for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers because the nation’s Football Federation sent his international invitation to the WRONG email address.
The Bayern Munich striker was due to be called up for the matches against Cape Verde and Rwanda, but an administrative error has cost him a place in the squad.
According to German outlet Bild, the Cameroonian FA sent the invitation to themselves rather than the former Stoke and PSG man.
The striker will therefore be unable to play in their last two Group F fixtures, even though his father Camille insisted his son was ready to play for the country.
“I was contacted by the association to find out what was going on. I contacted FC Bayern and they confirmed that they had not received the invitation,” he told Naja TV per Bavarianfootballworks.
“It looks like she sent it to the wrong email address instead. For me, that’s a lack of professionalism.
“When sending invitations, be sure to send them to the correct address.
“If that doesn’t happen, I don’t understand why it’s the club’s or Maxim’s fault.”
Choupo-Moting said: “I regret that there was a mis-communication in terms of the nomination.
Choupo-Moting swapped Stoke City for Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 and played the final 10 minutes of the 2020 Champions League final for PSG before joining winners Bayern in October.
“No exaggeration: It’s really crazy how good Choupo actually is,” former Bayern defender Jan Kirchhoff said following a transfer that surprised many.
“He has everything – he’s quick, understands the game, makes clever runs, he’s agile, technically strong, has good ball control and dribbling.”
