Police are investigating claims that Glen Kamara was racially abused during Rangers’ Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague last week.
The Gers midfielder was allegedly called a ‘f****** monkey’ by Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela.
In a statement, Kamara insisted he was the victim of ‘vile, racist abuse’ by the 33-year-old, who denies the claims.
A police statement read: “We can confirm we are investigating incidents of alleged racial abuse and a reported assault following the match between Rangers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox on Thursday, 18 March, 2021.
“Officers are liaising with both clubs and enquiries are continuing.”
Slavia Prague, who progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals with a 3-1 aggregate win against Rangers, have defended Kudela over the alleged racial incident.
The Czech club say Kamara assaulted Kudela after the game as they filed a criminal complaint through the Czech Embassy.
Kamara has been targeted off the pitch, too, as a disgraceful banner read, ‘Kamara – just a n*****’.
The Finland international’s lawyer, Aamer Anwar, has urged UEFA, who is also investigating the claims, to kick Slavia Prague out of the Europa League.
He told talkSPORT: “UEFA up until now have made a great deal about wanting to kick racism out of football and Show Racism the Red Card, and what we’re saying is that it’s time to stop the tokenism and take a zero tolerance approach .
“UEFA’s response sadly seems to be that they’ll wear armbands and fly banners but when it comes to the nitty-gritty they don’t actually deliver.
“The sanctions are minimal – £75,000 or £100,000 fines, that means nothing to the players that have committed these acts. Teams should be kicked out of championships.”
