Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, talkSPORT understands.
The Italian manager coached the Senegal defender for 18 months before joining the Toffees in December 2019.
Koulibaly, who was valued at £89million last year, has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Manchester United in the past.
And talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claims Ancelotti will have financial backing in the upcoming transfer window and is eyeing a cut-price deal for the 29-year-old.
He said: “It sounds like Carlo Ancelotti is going to be backed this summer.
“I think they’re just going to fall short this season in terms of being contenders for a Champions League place.
“But they believe they’ve got the right manager in place in Ancelotti to challenge at that kind of level.
“Koulibaly is someone Ancelotti worked with at Napoli, he knows him well.
“There was an £89m fee being talked about this time last year, but given the global economy when it comes to football, that fee would be dramatically reduced now.
“Ancelotti would like to get this deal done.”
Ancelotti will hope to lead Everton to a top six finish to entice Koulibaly, who has two years left on his Napoli contract, to Goodison Park.
The Toffees are two points off a European spot, but have a game in hand on their rivals.
