David Beckham says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing an ‘incredible’ job at Manchester United.
The Red Devils manager has come under pressure following his side’s FA Cup exit to Leicester in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
Solskjaer is yet to win silverware since taking charge at Old Trafford in 2018, but he has the full backing from his former United teammate, Beckham.
The Inter Miami co-owner, who won five Premier League titles while playing alongside Solskjaer, told ESPN: “I’ve seen some of the criticism.
“But I suppose when you are a manager of Man United when they’ve had success over the years that they’ve had, there was always going to be a point where people get criticised, whether it’s the players, whether it’s the owners, whether it’s the manager.
“Ole’s been in the game long enough to be able to take any kind of criticism.
“He’s very quiet, he gets on with his job, and I think he’s done an incredible job down at United.
“The results are starting to show that. Hopefully it continues because the fans love Ole, we all love Ole and we all want him to do well.
“So when the criticism comes, he’s one person that can take it.”
Solskjaer said tiredness was a factor in United’s deafest at Leicester as they had beaten AC Milan at the San Siro to progress to the Europa League quarter-finals just three days earlier.
The Europa League presents the only realistic opportunity for the Red Devils to win a trophy this season as they trail Premier League leaders Man City by 14 points.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has told talkSPORT United will sack Solskjaer if he does not lead his team to glory in Europe.
He said: “They can’t be blaming tiredness for a loss at Leicester in the FA Cup and their squad not being strong enough.
“United competing in the Europa League is not good enough, first and foremost, the fans know that, the club know that and Ole knows that.
“Not progressing in the Champions League was a massive, massive blow for them. Yes, they’re going to get in the top four… but so they damn should!
“He’s in a position for me where the Europa League, for me, has become monumental for him and the club.
“I like him and I’m not one who wants to see managers sacked and I do think they’ve made some strides forward, but Manchester United have to be doing better.
“If they don’t win the Europa League and only finish in the top four then I think they’ll make a change.”
