Declan Rice posted a brilliant response to a video of him being left hanging by his England teammates in their 2-0 win over Albania on Sunday afternoon.
A clip of the moment the West Ham midfielder was posted on Twitter showing him going up for a high-five after Harry Kane scored the opener, but he was left standing there with his arm in the air.
Shortly after the game had finished, Rice wrote: “I’m waiting for the.. Hello darkness my old friend meme to come.”
The 21-year-old eventually gave up and jogged back ready for the restart.
It was a successful afternoon for Rice and the England team as their faultless start to their World Cup qualifying campaign continued.
They followed up a 5-0 win over San Marino with the 2-0 victory over Albania.
Luke Shaw curled over a fine first-time cross from the left that Kane stretched to meet with a superb header that found the bottom right-hand corner.
Mason Mount then wrapped up the result with his goal in the 63rd minute.
Berat Djimsiti’s attempted pass out from the back only succeeded in finding Raheem Sterling, who prodded the ball onto Kane. The England skipper played a lovely ball through to Mount and the Chelsea midfielder coolly curled home.
