England Under-21s were left rock bottom of Euro 2021 Group D as they were beaten 2-0 by Portugal on Sunday evening.
It is two straight defeats for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in the tournament without scoring a single goal.
Pressure is growing on the manager with his side struggling despite a wealth of talent at his disposal.
Noni Madueke and Japhet Tanganga were given their England Under-21 debuts for the vital Euro 2021 following the opening 1-0 defeat to Switzerland.
Steven and Ryan Sessegnon were also recalled by boss Aidy Boothroyd, with Callum Hudson-Odoi missing from the squad through injury.
Portugal had the better first-half chances, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale denying Thierry Correia and Pote.
Dani Carvalho opened the scoring for Portugal after 64 minutes as they took a deserved lead when he curled in via a post.
Francisco Trincao made it 2-0 from the penalty spot with 16 minutes remaining after Marc Guehi’s foul on Goncalo Ramos.
England couldn’t fight their way back into the game and need a lot of things to go their way if they harbour any hopes of making it out of the group.
Portugal top the group on six points with Switzerland and Croatia both on three points.
Boothroyd’s side face Croatia on Wednesday needing to win and for Switzerland to lose against Portugal.
