However, they could have snatched an unlikely win with two late chances. Moussa Djenepo’s 84th-minute effort whistled just past the post, while Jordan Pickford saved to deny Jannik Vestergaard in stoppage-time.
Michael Keane thought he’d doubled Everton’s lead midway through the first half but his header was disallowed as provider for the goal, Mason Holgate, was offside in the build-up.
But one goal was all the home side needed as they moved level on points with Liverpool. The Toffees have played a match less than their Merseyside rivals…
