Daniel Sturridge could reportedly reignite his career in the MLS with David Beckham’s Inter Miami and DC United battling it out for his signature.
According to The Mirror, the former Liverpool striker is a target for Beckham’s club, who appointed Phil Neville as manager in January.
Beckham has attracted experienced players such as Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain since their inception in 2018.
Inter Miami have also raided England for Ryan Shawcross and former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs, who will link up with the club later this year, in the past month.
However, the report adds that Beckham will have to fend off interest from MLS rivals DC United for the 31-year-old, who became a free agent after leaving Turkish team Trabzonspor last year.
Beckham is building quite the dynasty in Florida and last month he said it wouldn’t take a lot of effort to prise the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to his club.
Asked what his sales pitch would be to those three megastars, Beckham told ESPN: “To be honest, it’s not a difficult pitch. You just say ‘Miami’ and they’re like, ‘okay!’”
Earlier this month, Beckham insisted Inter Miami were targeting players with the stature of Messi and Ronaldo.
“Without a doubt, those are the type of players that we aspire to bring to our club. I think that the fans would really appreciate that,” he said.
“But, you know, as owners, we want players here that are driven, that want to win, and that’s our priority.
“With Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain, these are players that we feel add to the glitz and the glamour of what the club is.
“Going forward, we also want to bring other players in if we have the opportunity to bring some great names in, you obviously mentioned Leo and Cristiano.
“They’ve been at the top of their game for the last 15 years because of hard work. Sir Alex Ferguson was a master at it.
“He didn’t always bring in the best player in the world. He didn’t always bring in the top player. He bought the right player for the club.
“And I think that that’s the one thing that I take into our club, is the player has to be right.”
