Pierre Emerick Aubameyang should count himself lucky he only got dropped to the bench for turning up late for Sunday’s north London derby – at least he didn’t get knocked out by his manager!
The Arsenal captain and star striker has come under fire for his lack of professionalism and poor leadership over claims he reported for duty after the rest of his teammates ahead of the Gunners’ hotly contested clash against Tottenham.
Aubameyang was pictured stuck in traffic ahead of Sunday’s clash and boss Mikel Arteta was praised for putting his foot down, as he dropped the skipper to the bench for the entire game after his breach of club protocol.
But it appears he got off quite lightly, according to Ally McCoist anyway, who said the Gabon star was fortunate to have ice cool Spaniard Arteta as his boss and not former Rangers manager ‘big’ Jock Wallace.
Like Aubameyang, Super Ally was a hero at his club, a favourite with fans and had a reputation for finding the net… and it appears he also shared the Arsenal man’s apparent lack of punctuality.
But it was a different game back then, which was clear when Coisty revealed what happened to him when he turned up late for a Rangers game under the fiery Scottish chief.
“Oh aye, you don’t don’t want to be doing that to big Jock Wallace, you don’t want to be doing anything wrong when big Jock Wallace was in charge,” he laughed on Tuesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.
“I’ll tell you a story – he officially knocked me out with one punch. I promise you, big Jock floored me with a right hook.
“I can’t still see him standing over me. He said, ‘I’ll see you in the morning’, and I was thinking to myself, gee whizz, this is only the warm up! It was unbelievable!
“Imagine that nowadays? It was 999 I needed to dial, nevermind the PFA!”
