Ronald de Boer rubbished rumours Donny van de Beek has asked Ajax to return this summer amid his continued struggles at Manchester United.
Van de Beek, who shares the same agent as Holland and Ajax legend De Boer, has been handed just two Premier League starts by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since his £40million move to Old Trafford last summer.
His future at United is the source of constant speculation and reports have suggested the 23-year-old midfielder is ready to quit at the end of the season.
However, De Boer poured cold water on those claims having spoken directly to Ajax and Van de Beek’s agent.
“I spoke to Ajax and they said there’s no truth in it at all,” the former Barcelona and Rangers midfielder told talkSPORT 2. “He didn’t ask to speak to them.
“He’s just focusing on his recovery on his ankle, and it’s not true that he asked Man United to leave.”

That said, De Boer insists his compatriot, widely considered one of Holland’s best talents, must consider his future unless something changes.
Van de Beek ‘feels loved’ by the Red Devils, but knows he needs to be starting more games at this delicate stage in his career.
“His agent also told me that of course he’s not happy that he’s not playing,” De Boer added. “He’s only had two starts under Solskjaer and that’s not what he hoped for when he joined Man United.
“He’s not worried, of course he wants to play every game. But he’s not worried that he can’t succeed.
“He has to have a review after this year, asking where do I stand? Do I have a possibility to succeed here or not? Otherwise, I have to make a move.
“We will see where he’s heading next year, maybe he stays at Man United or maybe another club is interesting for him.
“But he’s not panicking at all, he told his agent he’s so happy at Man United because the club is one of the best in terms of how they treat him, he feels loved.”
De Boer insists it’s not uncommon for players like Van de Beek to struggle when they first arrive in England, with the exception of Man United star Bruno Fernandes.
Many of Chelsea’s foreign imports last summer are still struggling to adapt, including Van de Beek’s former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech, and De Boer puts that down to the physicality of the Premier League compared to the Eredivisie.
“It’s only Fernandes who had no problem to adapt,” De Boer continued.
“It’s not a football thing, it’s the physical part. There are so many guys and within two years their physical appearance changes dramatically.
“In Holland, it’s nice with the ball but it’s not so physical. We have to give him time.”
