Watch the time Erik Lamela scored an even better rabona for Tottenham in Europa League game – years before amazing goal against Arsenal in north London derby

Erik Lamela produced a moment of magic to give Tottenham the lead against Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday.

However, this is not the first time he has successfully pulled off the skill known as a ‘rabona’ while playing in a Spurs shirt.

Back in October 2014, the Argentine had only been at the club for one year and showed a glimpse of his potential as a replacement for Gareth Bale in the Europa League.

Asteras Tripolis were the victims as Lamela fired home an even better rabona from outside the penalty area.

He put more power on this strike and lifted it off the ground to beat the stationary goalkeeper.

Tottenham ended up winning the mad match 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Harry Kane, who ended up playing in goal when Hugo Lloris was sent off.

In the aftermath of his rabona against Arsenal, some fans and legends reflected on the 2014 strike.

Gary Lineker tweeted: “The thing about the Lamela goal is, it’s not even the best Rabona he’s scored.”

And Jamie Redknapp said on Sky at half-time: “That is one of the best goals ever in the Premier League. It is brilliant.”

Lamela’s moment of brilliance left Sergio Reguilon in disbelief as he wheeled off to celebrate in the 33rd minute.

It also silenced the supporters working for AFTV on duty watching the game.

One fan cheered when Heung-min Son was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury, with Lamela replacing him early in the second half.

But he and the rest of the happy Gooners were soon left with their heads in their hands at the brilliance they had just seen.

‘What a Goal’ was quickly trending on Twitter as fans from around the world clamoured to see it.

However, Lamela went from hero to zero as he was also shown a red card for a second booking as Spurs ended the derby with 10 men and 2-1 losers.
