On Wednesday, talkSPORT’s European Super League correspondent Alex Crook told Jim White: “It’s being reported [by the Daily Mail] the Super League clubs actually paid £8m for what they’re calling ‘equity stakes’ in the competition.

“So, basically, it’s cost all those clubs £8m to sign up for a competition they’re not even going to play in!”

Before all Premier League clubs pulled out of the Super League, the Premier League warned it would hold ‘those involved to account under its rules’.

There have been calls for all six English top-flight clubs to face sanctions for their attempts to breakaway into another competition.

The PA news agency claims the Premier League’s position ‘has not altered since it issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon’.

Section L9 of the Premier League’s handbook states member clubs shall not enter or play in extra competitions without the prior written approval of the league’s board.

Simon Jordan has accused Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke of being a ring leader in the ‘arrogant’ and ‘contemptible’ Super League plans.

Gunners fans are set to protest against the club’s board for its part in the Super League ahead of their home match against Everton on Friday.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan told talkSPORT: “In a boxing match they’ve started a fight and they didn’t even get off the stool, it’s laughable, it’s contemptible.

“The capital behind this is Kroenke, in my view. I look at Arsenal as a football club that accepts mediocrity.

“When Kroenke walked through the door, they were the most profitable football club in the world. Look at the erosion of that club because he doesn’t really care about the success of the club.

“He wants to run it down the middle. A successful club costs a lot of money, an unsuccessful club costs a lot of money, he’s had a club that’s run down the middle.

“Now Arsenal is causing him a lot of problems, it’s a headache, it’s losing money and I think a lot of the capital behind this [Super League] is Kroenke.

“I think John W Henry and the Glazers are in the mix and I think Manchester City and Chelsea are lemmings that jumped on the train as it was leaving the station.”
