Gareth Bale has been handed a rare Premier League start by Ryan Mason in his first match as Tottenham interim boss.
The 29-year-old academy coach has been placed in charge of the first-team for the remainder of the season following Jose Mourinho’s sacking on Monday.
Mason’s first test comes against Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening, which you can listen to LIVE on talkSPORT from 6pm.
The former Tottenham midfielder is without Harry Kane, who injured his ankle in last week’s 2-2 draw with Everton.
And Kane’s absence has provided Bale with the chance to stake a regular claim for a first-team place.
The Welshman, who was out of favour under Mourinho, has started just six Premier League games during his loan spell from Real Madrid this season.
Meanwhile, Dele Alli, another player who was often left out by Mourinho, has been named on the bench.
Mason will be tasked with improving Spurs’ seventh place position and ending the club’s 13-year trophy drought when they take on Man City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
