Newcastle snatched a point from Liverpool in the last-minute as Joe Willock ensured a 1-1 draw which was nearly denied by VAR.
A wasteful Liverpool looked set to cling on to the lead given by a sensational early strike from Mohamed Salah – before an incredible finish to the game.
Callum Wilson thought he’d equalised in injury time, only for VAR to rule that the ball struck his arm, seemingly breaking Newcastle hearts and letting the Reds off the hook.
But Liverpool’s relief was short-lived and they were made to pay for an untold amount of missed chances when Arsenal loanee Willock equalised with basically the last kick of the game.
It means Jurgen Klopp’s side miss the chance to leapfrog Chelsea and West Ham into fourth, ahead of the two London sides playing each other this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Newcastle edge closer to safety, with nine points now separating them from Fulham in 18th.
In a match which saw both teams have a combined 30 shots on goal, an amazing strike from Salah opened the scoring.
The Egyptian took a superb touch before rifling one into the top corner – but that certainly didn’t set the tone for the afternoon’s finishing.
Klopp fielded all four of his star forwards – Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota – with each of them spurning glorious opportunities to put the game out of sight.
The warning signs were there, though, and Newcastle were thoroughly deserving of the point after squandering numerous chances of their own.
Wilson’s disallowed goal would’ve been a huge talking point, given he knew so little about the ball striking his arm before bundling it home.
Luckily for Newcastle fans, it didn’t matter as Willock’s deflected strike at the death, his third since arriving on loan in January, ensured it finished level anyway.
