Neymar has ended speculation about his future by confirming he will stay at Paris Saint-Germain – and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi doesn’t expect Kylian Mbappe to leave either.
The French champions exacted revenge on Bayern Munich, who beat them in last season’s Champions League final, as they went through to the semi-finals on away goals earlier tonight.
Despite losing 1-0 at the Parc-des-Princes on Tuesday, PSG were sensational at points as they carved out a number of clear-cut chances.
Neymar had many of these chances but was denied by the crossbar, the post and the brilliant Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on multiple occasions.
The Brazilian won the Champions League with previous club Barcelona in 2015 and his signing, plus that of Kylian Mbappe, were undoubtedly made to help PSG in their bid to become European champions for the first time.
That time appears to be running out for PSG to do that with Neymar and Mbappe among their ranks as both of their deals are set to expire in June 2022.
But Al-Khelaifi expects the two superstars to be in the French capital for some time yet.
After the match, he was quoted telling Sky Italy, per Fabrizio Romano: “Neymar contract? I think Neymar will stay here at PSG for a long time.”
And Neymar confirmed he will commit his future to the club.
He told ESPN Brazil: “I’m staying at PSG, the contract extension with PSG is no longer a topic. Obviously, I feel very comfortable and at home here at PSG. I feel happier than before”
Al-Khelaifi was later quoted by RMC Sport, per Romano: “We’ll invest a lot in the club, Neymar and Mbappe have no excuse to leave PSG.”
PSG will play the winners of the Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund tie in the last four, with Pep Guardiola’s side currently 2-1 up on aggregate.
