Norwich City’s top-flight return was guaranteed before they lost 3-1 to Bournemouth after Brentford and Swansea both failed to win.
Norwich took an early lead through Emi Buendía, but a 17th-minute red card for Dimitris Giannoulis left them exposed. Bournemouth took the points with goals from Sam Surridge, Arnaut Danjuma and Lloyd Kelly.
Earlier on Saturday, Swansea clawed their way back from two down to claim a 2-2 draw against the bottom club Wycombe, cutting the gap to second-placed Watford to six points as the Hornets lost 1-0 at Luton.
Admiral Muskwe fired Wycombe ahead 19 seconds into the second half, and five minutes later Wycombe doubled their lead through Garath McCleary. Jamal Lowe cut the deficit with a penalty, before the substitute Liam Cullen headed home with eight minutes to go. The home side lost the striker André Ayew to injury early on.

League One: Hull close on promotion as Sunderland slip
Hull are within touching distance of an immediate Championship return after goals from Josh Magennis and Keane Lewis-Potter earned a 2-1 comeback win over Fleetwood. The leaders move 11 points clear of third-placed Sunderland, who lost 1-0 at fifth-placed Blackpool.
Luke Garbutt's winner at Bloomfield Road was also good news for Peterborough, who have an eight-point cushion in second after they beat Northampton 3-1 on Friday. Portsmouth fell to a 1-0 defeat at MK Dons, Scott Fraser scoring the winner from the spot. Charlton and Ipswich could not take advantage, drawing 0-0 at the Valley.
Instead, Oxford climbed into the top six after a late comeback at home to Gillingham. Two down with 73 minutes gone, Karl Robinson's side rallied to win 3-2, with Sam Long getting a stoppage-time winner. Lincoln kept their automatic hopes intact and pushed 10-man Bristol Rovers to the brink of relegation with a 1-0 win at the Memorial Stadium.
Wigan took a big step towards safety as Joe Dodoo's freakish deflection helped to earn a 2-0 home win over Crewe. Rochdale climbed off the foot of the table with a 3-1 win over Accrington, replaced by Swindon, who lost 4-1 at Wimbledon.
Brentford’s faltering form continued as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Millwall. The hosts failed to have a shot on target, only testing the Millwall keeper Bartosz Bialkowski in the 82nd minute when he dived bravely at the feet of Ivan Toney.
Thomas Frank’s side are eight points behind Watford, who failed to close in on automatic promotion with defeat at local rivals Luton. Before kick-off, a minute’s silence in tribute to Prince Philip was interrupted by a smoke bomb, set off by a mystery interloper in the empty stand at Kenilworth Road.
James Collins came off the bench to score a penalty with his first touch as the Hatters ended their opponents’ eight-game unbeaten run. Elijah Adebayo won the penalty after 72 minutes, latching on to an underhit backpass before being brought down by keeper Daniel Bachmann.
The forward was injured in the challenge, but Collins came on to send Bachmann the wrong way. Watford had Kiko Femenía sent off, and Andre Gray’s late effort was disallowed for offside.

The bottom club, Grimsby, earned a potentially vital home win over promotion-chasing Bolton. Jay Matete put the Mariners ahead in the first minute, with Ira Jackson sealing victory before Shaun Miller's late consolation. Forest Green boosted their playoff hopes with a 3-2 home win over Scunthorpe in their first game since the manager Mark Cooper left the club. Harrogate edged a Yorkshire derby with Bradford thanks to Josh McPake's late winner, while Leyton Orient beat Barrow 2-0 at home.
Ryan Sweeney scored the only goal as Mansfield beat Stevenage, while Tranmere v Salford and Carlisle v Port Vale ended goalless.
At the bottom, Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of beating the drop suffered a painful late blow as Tyreeq Bakinson’s late leveller earned 10-man Bristol City a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough. Wednesday, who were without Darren Moore after the manager developed Covid‑19 complications, went ahead in the fourth minute through Julian Borner. Barry Bannan then had the chance to double their lead from the spot after Henri Lansbury was sent off for deliberate handball, but the Owls captain saw his penalty saved by Daniel Bentley. Bakinson’s equaliser three minutes from time leaves Wednesday seven points from safety.
Huddersfield took a big step towards safety as they won 2-0 at Nottingham Forest with goals from Aaron Rowe and Juninho Bacuna. Preston look safe after a 0-0 draw at mid-table Stoke. And QPR climbed above Middlesbrough and into 10th place with a 2-1 win at the Riverside. Rob Dickie’s 30-yard thunderbolt and Lee Wallace’s first Rangers goal put the visitors 2-0 up, and they held on despite Yannick Bolasie’s header and a second-half red card for the goalkeeper Seny Dieng.
