Trent Alexander-Arnold responded to his England snub in the perfect way by providing a crucial assist in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Arsenal.
The Reds defender was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the March international break as Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Kyle Walker were preferred to him.
And Alexander-Arnold sent a message to the Three Lions boss by providing an inch perfect cross for substitute Diogo Jota to head home to break the deadlock in the 64th minute at the Emirates.
Liverpool doubled their lead through Mohamed Salah just four minutes later as the forward scored for the first time in six Premier League games.
And Jurgen Klopp’s men killed the content with eight minutes remaining through Jota again as they closed the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to two points.
Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney added to Arsenal’s injury woes by limping off in the first minute of first-half stoppage time.
The left-back clashed with Liverpool midfielder James Milner and came off worse with a knee injury.
Tierney joins David Luiz, Granit Xhaka, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka on the sidelines as Arsenal failed to mark Mikel Arteta’s 50th game in charge with a win.
Liverpool dominated the game from start to finish as Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Milner had efforts that drifted inches wide of Bernd Leno’s goal in the first-half.
Arsenal were only able to register three shots on Liverpool’s goal with Soares going closest with a tame effort in the early stages of the second-half.
Jota replaced Andy Robertson in an attacking move by Klopp in the 61st minute, which paid off.
The Portugal international rose highest to head in Alexander-Arnold’s cross with the latter’s emotions on show in his celebration.
Arsenal were two down shortly after Jota’s opener as Salah got the better of Gabriel to poke the ball through Leno’s legs.
And Liverpool’s fearsome front three combined as Salah fed Mane, whose poor touch allowed Jota to complete his brace late on.
Mane could have got on the score sheet, too, but failed to make the most of two chances in injury-time.
While Liverpool’s push for a top four spot continues, Arsenal could drop to 10th in the Premier League table if Aston Villa avoid defeat against Fulham on Sunday.
