Winjaldum will be captaining the Netherlands at Euro 2020 this summer, and he heads into the competition in fine form.

In what has been a disappointing year for the club, he has stayed fit throughout the season and remained consistent with his form.

Liverpool fans hold the 30-year-old in high regard, with many sad to see a player who has been a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s machine depart.

Since his arrival in 2016, the midfielder has played league 178 league games for Liverpool and was instrumental in the clubs Premier League and Champions League victories in 2018 and 2019.

And according to Sky Sports, after the departure of Javi Martinez, Bayern are keen to add some depth to the midfield and are targeting the player.

Wijnaldum could be the perfect man for the Bavarians due to his ability to play anywhere in the middle of the park.

But Barcelona still remain in pole position for the midfielder.

Manager Ronald Koeman has made his admiration for Dutch players no secret, and bringing in their captain to join the squad seems like a match made in heaven.

Speaking on his departure after Liverpool secured Champions League qualification, Wijnaldum said: “I hoped to play many more years for the club but unfortunately things went different.

“I think everyone knows in football that anything can happen but the situation right now is that on July 1 I’m not a Liverpool player anymore,”

In a social media post, he also added: “I would have loved to remain a Liverpool player for many more years, but unfortunately things went different. I have to start a new adventure.”

With two more unnamed clubs reportedly interested in Wijnaldum, his next move is still yet to be determined.
