Eddie Howe to be new Celtic manager as former Bournemouth boss agrees to take charge of Scottish giants

Eddie Howe is set to be the new Celtic manager, talkSPORT understands.

The 43-year-old has agreed a deal to succeed Neil Lennon, who left the club in February, and will take charge of the Scottish Premiership side ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Howe has been out of management since leaving Bournemouth in August 2020.

He departed Bournemouth after they were relegated from the Premier League, having had two spells as manager of the south coast club spanning more than 11 years and 450 games.

He will now be tasked with turning Celtic’s fortunes around and wrestling the title back from bitter rivals Rangers.

Steve Gerrard has revitalised Rangers and led them to Scottish Premiership glory at a canter, denying Celtic ten titles in a row as the Hoops ended the season trophyless for the first time since 2010.

Howe is putting together his backroom team at Celtic and is keen to recruit from Bournemouth, who are preparing for the Championship play-offs.

But Jason Tindall, his former assistant, will not be joining him at Parkhead.

“I’ve been told from very reliable sources that Eddie Howe is now heading to Celtic for the start of next season and is even starting to assemble his backroom team,” talkSPORT’s Alex Crook revealed on the White and Jordan show.

“Some of that backroom team will come from Bournemouth and one of the reasons for the delay is of course Bournemouth are part of the Championship play-offs, looking to get back into the Premier League, and that could hamper Eddie Howe’s chances of taking one or two of his former coaches with him to Glasgow.

“But Eddie Howe will be the new Celtic manager in time for the start of next season.”
