Ederson was hailed as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ following his incredible pass that launched Man City’s counter attack for their first goal against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The City goalkeeper’s talent with the ball at his feet has always been lauded, but he produced something special as his side opened the scoring on their way to the Champions League final.
The Brazilian spotted Oleksandr Zinchenko breaking away on the left and sent an inch perfect 70-yard pass to set his side on their way.
Riyad Mahrez eventually finished the move to help take the tie away from PSG.
Mahrez then got a second in the second half as City progressed to their first Champions League final 4-1 on aggregate.
Former City and England winger Trevor Sinclair was full of praise for Ederson while on commentary for talkSPORT.
He said: “That is why I feel like Ederson is the best goalkeeper in the world. If you try and press Man City, he’s got the ability and accuracy to play 60 or 70 yards balls over the top.
“It was a superb ball. Great pull back by Zinchenko, it looked like he was going to put it in the box but he’s pulled it back to outside the 18-yard box.
“He’s picked out Kevin De Bruyne, he’s set himself, it has deflected and Mahrez has finished.”
And of course he meant it with Mahrez telling BT Sport after the game that it is something they work on in training.
When asked if the move was planned, he said: “Of course. We know he’s capable of putting the ball at the other goal. It’s something we work on all the time and today it worked good.”
