Man City boss Guardiola explains why he has not enjoyed the 2020/21 season – ‘The brain needs rest’

Despite City being on the verge of winning a third Premier League title in four years and close to reaching a first ever Champions League final, Guardiola has admitted his frustration with the busy schedule.

He told talkSPORT: “I cannot say I did enjoy the season with the amount of games.

“The brain sometimes needs rest. The brain needs rest to enjoy when you’re living.

“Before football, it was you train three, four days and we’re waiting to play again. Now it’s a routine like going into the office.

“I like the job, but I’d like to rest my brain to enjoy more as well.

“Now, we’re going one step [closer] to being champions three times in the last four years in the Premier League.

“We’re going to play a dream come true game to do something like we’ve never done before.”

City hold a 2-1 lead over Paris Saint-German heading into the Champions League semi-final second leg next week.

With that game in mind, Guardiola made eight changes for City’s 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Spaniard revealed his players were ‘sad’ for being left out of the Champions League semi-final first leg tie.

He said: “All the guys who played today, they didn’t play in Paris and were so sad. They’re disappointed because they deserved to play.

“I didn’t give them the opportunity to do it. But the best way to talk about that is on the pitch and they did it again.

“Now they can show how disappointed they are because they deserved to play.

“We have a final next Tuesday to try to reach the real final. So we’re going to try to do it.”
