Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ‘feistiness’ just like Roy Keane did and it’s making them even better

Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes has taken on the mantel of feisty midfielder left by Roy Keane at Old Trafford, talkSPORT have been told.

For more than a decade, the Irishman kept opponents and teammates in check while starring for the Red Devils with his spirited mentality.

Once he left, though, Sir Alex Ferguson and his successors failed to find a replacement for Keane, a true leader with an unquenchable will to win.

He always demanded 100 per cent from his teammates and any dip in form was always met by an on-pitch blast.

Portugal ace Fernandes has now been at Old Trafford for almost a year and a half following an initial £47million deal in January 2020.

He’s already paying off that fee with his goals and assists, even if many of his strikes are from the penalty spot.

But Fernandes has also brought some fire back to the United midfield.

He’s often seen admonishing teammates when incorrect decisions are made, or sloppiness begins to creep into their game.

The 26-year-old has got high standards as he seeks silverware with Manchester United.

And one of Keane’s former teammates believes Fernandes is a perfect successor, which is resulting in an improvement in the mentality at the club.

Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast: “They have got a lot of good characters now in their team. There is a little bit of feistiness going on in the team as well.

“You always feel with Fernandes, he always wants to upset one or two, or says things as the game is going on. That’s what [Roy] Keane did. Keane did that for years at United.

“I played with Roy so I know he would but it was in a good way. He would upset a few as the game was going on. Fernandes is doing that all the time. If you watch him he’s doing it all the time. But it doesn’t work in the wrong way.

“I’ve seen him have a pop at Luke Shaw. I’ve seen him do that. I quite like that they have got that about them. I think that adds to them.”
