Pep Guardiola has ‘fallen out of love’ with Sergio Aguero and the Manchester City legend is unlikely to have any part in the team’s push for the Champions League title.
That’s according to Watford striker and talkSPORT pundit Troy Deeney, who believes the manager has ‘lost trust’ in the Argentine striker.
City have the chance to progress to their first ever European Cup final on Tuesday when they host Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their semi-final clash.
It’s advantage City, who lead the tie 2-1 after coming back from a goal to seal a crucial away victory in the French capital last week.
And fans will be wondering whether they’ll get a glimpse of Aguero after he scored his 182nd Premier League goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Ally McCoist was blown away by the 32-year-old’s strike, with many insisting Aguero’s ‘still got it’, and is ‘convinced’ he still has a big role to play in the remainder of the season with a Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup treble on the cards.
The Rangers legend said on Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “Oh, what a finish that was, DEAR ME! The ball comes in, he just takes a touch and hits it on the half-volley with his instep, it flies into the top of the net. It’s a brilliant goal, an absolutely brilliant goal.
“And I’m of the opinion, we’re talking about Pep maybe thinking Aguero is not ready to be given more time, but I look at the chances that have been created by Man City over the last three or four games, and I’m absolutely convinced Aguero would have added to their goal tally.”
But Deeney doubts whether fans will ever see Aguero play in the Champions League in a City shirt again, claiming Guardiola doesn’t trust him in the biggest games.
Asked if the manager should have brought Aguero off the bench against PSG to kill the tie in the first-leg, Deeney said: “No.
“From what I see with Pep, I think he’s fallen out of love with Aguero.
“For whatever reason, I don’t know whether it’s injuries or just not getting much out of him any more…
“He’s just at a crossroads where he’s going to move on.
“Aguero is an unbelievable striker, world-class, the goals are there.
“I just think in the Champions League Pep doesn’t trust him any more.”
