Pontus Jansson reveals he still LOVES Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa, jokes he could RETIRE after Brentford’s Premier League promotion but insists he will stay after achieving dream

Brentford centre-back Pontus Jansson has finally achieved his dream, so no wonder he was in an excitable mood.

The Swedish star captained the Bees to Premier League promotion as they beat Swansea City 2-0 in the EFL Championship play-off final.

It’s been the 30-year-old’s focus since arriving on these shores back in 2016, first with Leeds United, and then with Brentford for the last two campaigns.

Even the Wembley showpiece had its downs as well as its ups for Jansson, who was forced off with a knock with his side leading but with 11 minutes of the match remaining.

His teammates were able to see the game out, thankfully.

And Jansson admitted he thinks he knows the reason the Bees were able to put their play-off curse behind them.

“I think the difference this year to last year, last year I think a lot of Leeds fans were against me, they didn’t wish me luck,” Jansson joked.

“But this year, so many Leeds fans were with me and with Brentford, probably because they are already there and wanted me to come and join them.

“I love Leeds. Brentford first, but I love Leeds. Leeds are one of the favourite clubs I have but of course I love Brentford as much.

“I’m so proud. I’m so happy. This means the whole life for me. I could go home to Sweden and retire because this is what I have dreamt of since I came to England.

“Of course, I will not go home. I will stay here and play Premier League football. I am so happy.”

Jansson appeared to leave Leeds under a dark cloud but the player admits Marcelo Bielsa helped him – and Brentford – more than he knows.

“I am so thankful to Bielsa and what he gave me at Leeds,” he added.

“He gave me so much knowledge that I brought in here to Brentford and Brentford were so willing to listen to me with my ideas that I took from Bielsa, so I thank him a lot because for me he is one of the best coaches in the world.

“People think that our relationship is not the best but it is. It’s very good. I am so thankful to him.

“Of course I love Brentford so much but also I say thank you to Bielsa and Leeds.”
