Riyad Mahrez dubbed ‘world’s best player’ on current form in talkSPORT debate but fellow host insists winger isn’t even ahead of Man City teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden

Riyad Mahrez has been dubbed the ‘best player in the world’ on current form by talkSPORT co-host Adrian Durham.

Mahrez had another superb European night on Tuesday evening, hitting a double against PSG as Manchester City progressed to their first ever Champions League final.

The Algerian took both of his goals brilliantly to continue his fine season under Pep Guardiola – and Durham reckons no player in world football is playing better than him at the moment.

“Mahrez made an impact in both semi-finals,” he declared on Drive.

“He’s arguably – and he’s about to win his third title – the best player in the world right now.

“Even if he’s not the very best, he’s right up there.”

Durham’s Drive co-host Darren Gough disagreed, however, arguing that there are better players at Man City on current form.

“His form is fantastic but I’d be a little bit calmer in my appraisal in that position,” Gough said.

“In his position you could argue he’s the best in that position, but is he one of the best now? I find that hard too suggest.

“At Man City right now, [Phil] Foden, [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Ruben] Dias are better.”
