Spotify billionaire Daniel Ek officially confirms he HAS made bid for Arsenal, reported to be $1.8billion, but it is DECLINED by Kroenkes who say they ‘don’t need the money’

Daniel Ek has announced that he’s made an official offer to buy Arsenal, but revealed his bid was turned down by the Kroenkes.

The Spotify billionaire previously expressed interest in taking over the club he supported growing up, and insists he still retains this interest despite being knocked back.

He posted a statement on Saturday evening which read: “Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bit for Arsenal Football Club.

“I think it’s important to correct the record.

“This week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at board and a golden share for the supporters.

“They replied that they don’t need the money.

“I respect their decision, but remain interested and available should that situation ever change.”

According to the Telegraph, his offer was in the region of $1.8billion.

Ek was born in Stockholm, Sweden and co-founded world famous music streaming service Spotify with his business parter Martin Lorentzon in 2006.

He has since built a reported fortune of $4.7billion and watched on as Gunners fans protested their current ownership at the end of last month.

On that day, he declared his interest in taking over.

Club legend Thierry Henry then revealed he was involved in Ek’s bid, alongside Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira.

Asked whether he was involved in the consortium to purchase Arsenal, Henry told Sky Sports last week: “It is true. Daniel is an Arsenal fan.

“He did not say it for any publicity, he has been an Arsenal fan for a very long time.

“He approached us, we listened to him. And we knew, first and foremost, that he wanted to involve the fans.

Henry added: “He wants to re-inject the Arsenal DNA, the identity that I think is long gone.

“They don’t have a lot of Arsenal people among the board, who can show the right direction, and that’s what Daniel wants to do.

“He already reached out and said himself that he has collected the funds to put in a good bid.

“A lot of people have been screaming that they want the owner out.

“We are trying to offer a solution, involving the fans and the DNA back at the club.”
