Thomas Tuchel ‘not happy’ with his Chelsea line-up after shock Arsenal defeat as he laments ‘total gift’ goal following Jorginho’s error

Thomas Tuchel admitted he may have made too many changes to his Chelsea side after they were stunned by Arsenal in a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Having beaten Real Madrid and Manchester City in their last two outings, the Blues were made to pay for a lack of cutting edge as Emile Smith Rowe capitalised on a Jorginho blunder to earn the Gunners an unexpected three points.

The Italy midfielder miscued pass left the out-of-position Kepa Arrizabalaga scrambling across goal, with the Spain stopper forced to parry off the line.

Smith Rowe tapped home Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s squared pass into the net, a goal which ultimately sealed Arsenal’s third-straight Premier League victory.

And after the game, Tuchel labelled the result a ‘wake-up call’ as he admitted he may have made too many changes.

He told Sky Sports: “It was totally our fault, nobody else’s. We lost the game, it’s totally our responsibility. We had huge chances, we made more or less an own goal, a total gift.

“But overall, we were not sharp enough, we could not put up the same intensity and energy as usual, so it’s on me. I think it was maybe too many changes from the last match and I take full responsibility also for that.

“Maybe it’s the last wake-up call for all of us.”

Reece James said the Champions League finalists only had themselves to blame for the defeat.

He told Sky Sports: “We lost the game, we made a mistake to lead to the goal and we simply didn’t take our chances. We only have ourselves to look at and to blame for the loss and maybe on another day, the game goes differently.

“They’re a good team and they’re hard to break down as well, but we had chances to score to put the game to bed early on and we didn’t take the chances. It’s our own fault.”
