Thomas Tuchel says Kai Havertz has given him a selection headache ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Real Madrid.
The Germany midfielder scored twice with two clinical finishes in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
Havertz was a 66th-minute substitute in a 1-1 first leg draw with Real Madrid – and will be pushing for a start in the second match at Stamford Bridge in four days’ time.
Asked if Havertz had given him a selection headache, Chelsea boss Tuchel told talkSPORT: “Yeah, of course.
“This is what we need. It’s not possible that you know your line-up for a Champions League semi-final on the Saturday before.
“I want to do my decision on Tuesday and this is part of the performance today that the guys who came in don’t judge it and play with maybe an attitude with, ‘now I play, but I wanted to play last Tuesday’.
“No, they came in and showed and gave me something to think about. That’s the best situation we can have.”
Chelsea are now six points clear of fifth-placed West Ham, who play Burnley on Monday.
Tuchel has admitted the victory over Fulham is a big step in the Blues’ pursuit of a top four spot.
He said: “For me, it has a big influence, for us it has a big influence to not stumble today in-between two big matches.
“To arrive on Wednesday and having that game off our shoulders and nothing to worry about and nothing to be sad about.
“This is the most important thing because we are in the race for the top four, every match is crucial and the last home game was a draw, so it wasn’t too easy and I’m happy with this result.”
