It’s a missed opportunity for the Hammers in their push to finish in the Champions League spot, with Leicester’s surprise defeat to Newcastle opening the door for them to go within two points of fourth.

But West Ham lacked the composure when they got their opportunities. Said Benrahma headed failed to test Jordan Pickford as he headed over Pablo Fornals’ inviting cross.

And in the second half Jarrod Bowen couldn’t sort his feet out when the ball came to him at an awkward height after Vladimir Coufal’s effort struck the post.

The visitors were good value for the three points as they kept alive their hopes of securing European football for next season.

They were more threatening with Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison causing their opponents a lot of problems. Shortly after the goal, the Brazilian fired at Lukasz Fabianski after turning Issa Diop well.

Fabianski was called into action as he parried away Gylfi Sigurdsson’s menacing free-kick.

The Toffees should have made it 2-0 through Josh King but the substitute headed Calvert-Lewin’s lofted cross against the post from close range.
