Barcelona are increasingly confident that Lionel Messi will sign a new contract – ending talk of a potential move to Man City or Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi’s current deal is set to expire this summer, just 12 months after publicly declaring he wanted to leave the LaLiga club.
The signing of close friend and compatriot Sergio Aguero on a free transfer from Manchester City appears to have sealed the deal as such.
According to reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are working on the last details and clauses on a new two-year deal for Messi.
Newly-elected Barca president Joan Laporta has pledged to do his utmost to keep Messi at the club.
Speaking last week he indicated a deal was close to being agreed, saying: “Leo surely deserves more and could make more elsewhere, but his desire is to make Barca great.
“I am sure that he appreciates the effort we are making, and I think that he is excited and motivated by the project we are building.
“For Leo, it is not about money, it is about the team and its chances of winning.
“Leo, above all, wants to feel comfortable, to feel appreciated. And then to win.”
