Harry Kane’s performance against Croatia has been dubbed ‘strange’ by Adrian Durham.
The England captain failed to have an impact as the Three Lions got their Euro 2020 campaign off to a winning 1-0 start thanks to Raheem Sterling’s goal on Sunday.
Despite Jose Mourinho praising Kane’s display, talkSPORT host Durham remains unconvinced.
He said: “I’ve got three main takeaways from this first game for England at Euro 2020.
“The first one is Kalvin Phillips is brilliant. The second one is Harry Kane’s performance was strange.
“I don’t really want to be too critical because maybe he’s not fully fit, maybe he was asked to do things that didn’t get the best out of him… I’m not quite sure what Harry Kane’s performance was.
“So if anyone can answer that, feel free.”
While admitting Sterling is now undroppable for the Scotland match on Friday, Durham believes the Man City winger’s finishing needs to improve.
Sterling has scored 13 goals in his last 17 appearances for England, but wasted a golden opportunity to double his country’s lead when he blazed over from close-range.
Durham added: “I do think that Raheem Sterling, it was said to me off air he can’t be dropped, and he probably can’t, he scored the winning goal.
“He must be feeling on top of the world, but he also missed two really good chances.
“He had the ball on the edge of the box in the first-half with lots of time and no pressure, he’s ballooned it miles off target and the one in the second-half he’s leaned back.
“Coaches have suggested when striking the ball, Raheem Sterling doesn’t quite get it right, technically he needs to work on that.
“He definitely needs shooting practice.”
