Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi has admitted that advice from Mesut Ozil convinced him to leave the Emirates on a temporary basis in the summer transfer window.
Bernd Leno also chipped in with some wise words, insisting the young midfielder would relish the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.
Guendouzi told Kicker: “I had a very good relationship with Mesut Ozil and Bernd Leno. Both of them told me a lot of good things about the Bundesliga.
“I played over 80 games there [at Arsenal] and had a good, intense time there.
“I learned a lot there in terms of sport and grew up there. It was two good years for me.”
Guendouzi’s latest comments suggests he will not return to north London at the end of his loan spell.
The France Under-21 international has made 82 appearances since joining the Gunners from Lorient two years ago, but he found himself surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this season.
Guendouzi has not has not been selected in a matchday squad since a post-game incident in June’s defeat at Brighton led to further-reaching questions about his mentality.
