Diego Maradona has been taken to hospital just three days after his 60th birthday.
The Argentina legend, considered by many to be the greatest footballer ever, was admitted to Ipensa Hospital in La Plata, where he currently manages local side Esgrima y Gimnasia.
Maradona’s personal doctor says he is suffering from dehydration and the situation is not related to coronavirus, but also suggested the 60-year-old is experiencing signs of depression.
Leopoldo Luque said: “It would be wrong to say he’s just suffering psychologically.
“His clinical situation cannot be separated from his frame of mind.
“His psychological situation affects everything, you begin to eat badly, the amount of protein your body needs goes down.
“Diego goes in cycles. Sometimes he’s okay and then he has periods when he’s not doing so well.
“I didn’t like the state he was in. Getting him into hospital helps him.”
A video recently emerged of Maradona leaving his side’s match early on Friday, the day he turned 60.
His daughter Gianinna responded to the video, in which Maradona appeared to have difficulty walking, telling a fan on Twitter: “It tears my soul apart.”
Another one of his daughters, Dalma, also responded to the news of Maradona’s hospital admission.
She said: “The other thing that’s important is that he is okay.
“I hope for all those bloodsuckers that nothing happens to him.”
