He was talking about Sheffield Wednesday and their search for a new manager during Wednesday’s White and Jordan on talkSPORT and revealed how he fell foul of the strict boardroom dress codes at some clubs.

“My experiences of Sheffield Wednesday were it was a phenomenally big football club,” began Jordan. “Far bigger than Sheffield United… and I know they will go apoplectic at me.

“I also remember them being very antiquated in their boardroom, like the old school tie brigade we think of the FA.

“Sheffield Wednesday embodied that at the time with only one person in the boardroom. There wasn’t this or that, not that I wanted to go in.”

Co-host Jim White asked: “Did you get kicked out for not wearing a tie?”

Jordan said: “No, I got kicked out of Wigan’s board room for not wearing a tie. It was Brenda (Spencer, former chief executive) who kicked me out.

“Daniel Levy kicked me out of the boardroom for not wearing a tie and gave me a Spurs tie to wear.”

Jim added: “Why were you not wearing a tie?”

Jordan replied: “I had a doctors’ note. I didn’t want to wear a tie. I didn’t make people wear a tie in my boardroom. Why should I wear a tie?”

Which resulted in White responding: “No wonder you were despised.”
