Kai Havertz says winning titles at Chelsea ‘worth more’ than at other clubs as playmaker explains why he chose to join Blues

Winning titles at Chelsea is ‘worth more’ than doing so at other clubs, Blues new boy Kai Havertz has claimed.

The 21-year-old, who is seen as one of Germany’s brightest young talents, joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen in a £72million deal in the summer

He has had a promising start to life at Stamford Bridge, netting four goals in his opening ten appearances, but recently contracted coronavirus which has put him out of action for at least two weeks as he self-isolates.

A host of top clubs in Europe – including European champions Bayern Munich – were tracking Havertz before he completed his switch to west London.

And the playmaker has revealed Frank Lampard’s vision to win titles was key in persuading him to join the Blues, insisting that winning a title at Chelsea is ‘worth more’ than at other sides.

“To me, it was important to have a club with a vision,” he told Sport Bild. “The club is on the move. We are a young team with a lot of great players. We think aggressively.

“We want to build something here and attack. This motivates me. And then, a title with Chelsea is just worth more.

“A transfer like this doesn’t happen overnight. I had enough to go through all options and things which are important to me. I was watching a lot of Premier League on TV anyhow and knew Chelsea really well.”

Havertz joined his compatriot Timo Werner in moving to Stamford Bridge and he has admitted his international teammate has helped him settle in the Premier League.

“I help Timo with good passes on the pitch and, at the beginning, he helped me out with a lift to the training grounds,” he added.

“Sure, we do a lot of things together. This helps a lot. But we also must go our own ways to fully settle here.

“To me, the move to England is also important step for my personal development.”
