Christian Eriksen put on transfer list by Inter Milan as former Tottenham playmaker falls out of favour under Conte but Houssem Aouar is still the target

Christian Eriksen has officially been transfer listed by Inter as his dismal spell in Italy looks set to end next month.

The 28-year-old was one of the top players in the Premier League during his spell at Tottenham but pushed for a move away from north London to ‘try something new’.

That resulted in him joining the Italians for £16.9million from Spurs in January but he has struggled to nail down a regular starting place at Inter.

Now it looks as though he will be on the move again just 12 months on from his transfer.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta told Sky Sport: “Yes, I can confirm that Christian Eriksen is on the transfer list. He’s going leave in January.

“He’s not functional to our plans and he had difficulty here at Inter. I think it’s right that Christian goes away to find more space.”

Earlier this month, Eriksen admitted being frustrated by his playing time.

“This is not what I dreamed of. I think all football players want to play as much as possible. It is never fun to sit on the bench, but the coach decides who plays.

“It is a special situation, people want to see me play and I also want to play. However, the coach has different ideas and I have to respect that as a player.

“Obviously, mentally it is hard because I am not accustomed to sit on the bench, but now I have had to get used to it.

“Right now things aren’t going well for Inter, but before, when I wasn’t playing a lot, the team won a lot.”

He added: “I am concentrating on my football, then when the transfer window opens we will see if something will happen or not.”

Eriksen played 305 times for Tottenham after joining from Ajax in 2013 where he scored 51 goals and registered 62 assists in 226 Premier League matches.

In November, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported that Inter boss Antonio Conte would consider a swap deal with Arsenal that would see Granit Xhaka go the other way.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano told his podcast, Here We Go: “He has been offered to Arsenal, but we always said that he’s not the first choice for Arsenal.

“So, let’s see what Arsenal will do for their first choice – if it will be [Houssem] Aouar or another player – but at the moment, Eriksen is not the first one.”
