Liverpool told to sign Manchester United and Man City target Erling Haaland by Reds legend – but Dortmund defeat shows how much he’d be missed

Liverpool have been urged to sign hotshot Erling Haaland, who would be a ‘great fit’ at Anfield.

This is the view of Reds legend John Barnes, who’s been waxing lyrical about the Borussia Dortmund star.

Haaland has 17 goals in just 14 appearances this season

Haaland burst onto the scene last season as he fired in the goals for former club Red Bull Salzburg.

The Norwegian’s exploits earned him interest from some of Europe’s big clubs including Manchester United and Man City, however, he opted to join the Bundesliga giants.

He’s settled in brilliantly at Dortmund, firing in 33 goals in 32 appearances since completing his move in January.

At just 20 years old, Haaland has many years of football ahead of him and has been tipped to step into the shoes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have been at the top of the sport for over a decade.

Haaland would make Liverpool’s attack even more deadly

Liverpool have a settled attack at the moment but Barnes would love to see his former club add Haaland to their ranks, explaining why he’d be a great fit at Anfield.

Barnes told Bonus Code Bets: “Erling Haaland would be a great fit at Liverpool if he was to join the club.

“He’s strong, aggressive, very good technically as well as being direct in the way he plays, I’ve not doubt he would be the perfect addition to the way that Liverpool play.

“His quality is there without question, and for someone of his age to score as many goals as he has done has been so impressive. Dortmund are a team that score a lot of goals similarly to Liverpool, so it is a natural fit for him to make this kind of step up.

“However, if you look at the way Arsenal or Manchester City play their football, you wouldn’t think he would fit, but Liverpool would be great for him.”

Dortmund wouldn’t let their star striker go without a fight though – their latest result showing just how important he is to the side.

Haaland sat out their Bundesliga clash at home to Stuttgart on Saturday with a hip injury and they missed him hugely as they went down to a 5-1 defeat. The result leaves Dortmund fifth in the table.
