Mesut Ozil hails Emile Smith Rowe for Arsenal display in West Brom win as academy graduate records another assist and Piers Morgan tells playmaker to ‘pack his bags’

Mesut Ozil believes Arsenal’s attack is in good hands with Emile Smith Rowe behind it.

The Gunners beat West Brom 4-0 to make it three wins on the bounce and the 20-year-old has now recorded two assists in five Premier League games.

And Ozil referred to the young midfielder as the ‘difference maker’.

“Nice game my boys,” he wrote on Twitter. “Great spirit – 3 wins in a row. Team looks good with a no.10 like Emile Smith Rowe – the difference maker.”

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, having told Ozil to earlier pack his bags and to stop ‘fleecing’ the club, agreed with the player and then reiterated his point.

Smith Rowe came through the Arsenal academy and will have spent many minutes watching the World Cup winner.

“I look up to Mesut Ozil a lot,” he revealed in an interview last season. “I watch him in training and the movement he has and the little touches he does. For me to train with him every day, I can’t think of anything better.”

However, Smith Rowe has now actually recorded more assists than Ozil has managed under manager Mikel Arteta, who excluded him from the first team squad earlier this season.

And Bukayo Saka, who was the recipient of Smith Rowe’s vision, explained it’s the type of football the club want to be playing.

“[For my goal] Emile saw me around the corner and played it first time and then I went to [Alexandre] Lacazette and Emile made the third-man run and luckily Emile saw me in the middle of the open goal,” he said.

“It was great goal from all of us, one-touch play and this is the football that we love to play.”
