Arsenal will be ‘lucky’ to finish in the top 10 following their 1-0 defeat to Man City on Sunday.
That is according to former Newcastle and Crystal Palace star Darren Ambrose, who also believes Tottenham have a better chance than the Gunners of winning the Europa League this season.
Arsenal and Tottenham are 10th and ninth in the Premier League table, respectively, and are both in the last-32 stage of the Europa League.
Spurs are all but guaranteed a last-16 place as they hold a 4-1 first leg lead over Wolfsberger, while Arsenal have it all to play for after drawing 1-1 with Benfica.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 11th Premier League defeat of the season, Gunners fan and former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Mikel Arteta’s side MUST win the Europa League.
He told talkSPORT: “For me with Arsenal, you’ve got to win the Europa League.
“Tenth is not good enough, but if they were somehow able to win the Europa League then they’re in the Champions League.
“You build on the home form, but while they’re still in the Europa League they’ve still got a chance.
“I genuinely believe we’ve got a chance of winning it.”
Ambrose disagreed with Bent by insisting Jose Mourinho’s experience of winning trophies puts Tottenham in a better position than Arsenal in the Europa League.
And the talkSPORT host does not seem confident about the Gunners’ chances of a top 10 finish, either.
He said: “Spurs have got a better chance than Arsenal to win the Europa League.
“Arteta won the FA Cup [last season], but in terms of winning trophies, Jose is the guy to go to and this season we’ll obviously see.
“He’s got the League Cup final to go and in the Europa League, they’ve played a poor standard of opposition, but they’ve done the job.
“I don’t think drawing to Benfica for Arsenal is doing what they have to do. They needed to win that game to stand them any chance [of progressing].
“I don’t think Arsenal will win any trophies this season. Potentially, they’ll be lucky to make the top 10.”
