Ed Woodward reportedly had ‘tears in his eyes’ when describing some of the criticism he has received from fans.
That’s according to former Anderlecht chief Michael Verschueren, who spent 18 months in the role and had dealings with the Manchester United executive vice-chairman.

The Red Devils chief has taken his fair share of flak since replacing David Gill in 2013, with the club’s transfer policy dividing the fan base.
Of course, the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson caused understandable confusion at the club, but several unsuccessful lucrative signings have threatened to derail his legacy.
The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria arrived at Old Trafford with pay packets almost as hefty as the expectations, but failed to deliver.
Verschueren experienced his fair share of scrutiny for awkward signings at Anderlecht, but the Belgian wanted to take the time to congratulate Woodward with United now embroiled in one of the tightest title races ever.

“Two years ago, I was accompanied by Ed Woodward, the CEO of Manchester United, who was going through a sporting slump at the time,” Verschueren told Het Laatste Nieuws
“He showed me tweets from supporters: ‘Look Michael, how cruel the fans can be’ – the tears were in his eyes. Today Manchester United are the leader [second] in the Premier League.”
“I messaged Woodward a few days ago to congratulate him. He texted me back saying, ‘You know how tough the journey was’. Well, that’s my message to our supporters: the journey will not be easy in the coming years, but Anderlecht will be back.
“However, continuing to deposit blind money into the account is not the solution. We will continue to talk constructively.”
