Cristiano Ronaldo reacts angrily to Napoli almost beating Juventus to final Champions League spot as he creates history by finishing as Serie A top scorer

Juventus managed to secure Champions League football on the final day of the Serie A season, even without record signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up.

However, the Portugal captain looked somewhat perturbed when Napoli took the lead against Verona – a goal which nearly condemned the Old Lady to the Europa League.

Andrea Pirlo’s side started the day in fifth place, but took advantage of Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Gialloblu to finish fourth and in the final Champions League spot as they thrashed Bologna 4-1.

Goals by Federico Chiesa, Alvaro Morata and Adrien Rabiot helped Juve to cruise into half-time with a 3-0 lead.

Spaniard Morata scored his second shortly after the restart, before Riccardo Orsolini grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.

Ronaldo watched Amir Rhahmani open the scoring for the hosts, looking visibly frustrated while he was effectively helpless on the bench.

Yet the 36-year-old will have been delighted when Davide Faraoni found an equaliser just nine minutes later to secure a 1-1 draw.

The Portugal captain is the only player in history to finish as top scorer in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A after notching 29 goals in the league this season.

Elsewhere, AC Milan beat Atalanta – who had already sealed a top-four finish – to finish above their opponents in second place and book their Champions League spot.
