Jack Grealish HAS to go to the Euros this summer if he’s fit enough, according to Liverpool legend Ray Houghton.
Grealish returned to the Aston Villa squad for the first time since February in a huge boost to England ahead of next month’s tournament.
The 25-year-old was named on the bench as Dean Smith’s side faced Everton on Thursday night, and came on for the final 18 minutes.
Grealish had missed 12 games with a shin injury and must now prove he can be ready for England.
The midfielder only made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side last August and has five caps to his name.
His debut was long overdue, but a glut of talent in his position and potentially a niggling injury problem may impact his place on the side.
Speaking to talkSPORT 2, Houghton said: “If he’s very close, I’d take him as he’s the kind of player who can take defence to attack very quickly.
“In tight situations where you are winning 1-0 he can hold onto the ball. He’s very adept at that and adept at getting free-kicks to slow the game down. He’s got his worth to the team.
“The goals he’s scored, chances he’s created and assists he’s got has been terrific.
“If he’s near 100 per cent fit then you’ve got to take him. England have got so many players, I wouldn’t like being in Gareth Southgate’s position as there’s going to be some defenders he’s going to have to leave out.
“(Trent) Alexander-Arnold wasn’t in the squad for the last games and there were a few question marks around that. He’s really come on in the last few weeks.
“In midfield, there’s some big decisions to be made.”
