Liverpool’s players paid a touching tribute to the nine-year-old boy who tragically died after being struck by lightning this week.
Jordan Banks, from Blackpool, died after being seriously injured on a football field just after 5pm on Tuesday evening.
The players all wore shirts that said ‘Jordan 7’ on them while warming up for their clash with Manchester United on Thursday.
A Liverpool Tweet read: “You’ll Never Walk Alone, Jordan Banks.
“Nicknamed ‘mini-Milner’ by his coaches, Jordan was a brilliant person, as well as a passionate footballer. We’re all thinking of his loved ones tonight.”
In a statement released by Lancashire Police, Jordan’s family said: “Yesterday our worlds stopped.
“We lost the brightest star our beautiful boy Jordan.
“His laugh, that infectious smile, golden curls, he was our everything.
“Wise beyond his years, caring, considerate, generous and so loving. Our love is endless. Goodnight beautiful boy.
“We thank you all for your kind words and support but as a family ask that you respect our wishes and privacy.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 10 changes once again as Manchester United hosted rivals Liverpool in their rearranged Premier League encounter.
Having made 10 alterations for Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Leicester, the Norwegian plumped for the same number on Thursday evening with Eric Bailly the only player to retain his place.
Roberto Firmino replaced Sadio Mane in Liverpool’s only change at Old Trafford.
