Jamie Carragher poked fun at his punditry colleague Gary Neville after Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat at the hands of Villarreal on Wednesday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were beaten 11-10 in a penalty shootout after the game finished 1-1 following extra time in Gdansk.
United legend Neville was far from impressed with the display they served up – which means they have now gone without silverware for four straight seasons.
“You can’t switch performance on and off like a tap,” Neville wrote on Twitter. “Haven’t played well for weeks and last night a continuation of the form recently.
“Pressure will be applied to Ole and the team. Rightly so.
“Need to get it right this summer and a good start to next season needed badly!”
And Liverpool icon Carragher made a cheeky quip in response, posting a viral photo of Neville and himself.
Speaking on Wednesday night’s Sports Bar, Jason Cundy called for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be replaced at the helm after failing to deliver Europa League glory.
“There’s nothing positive, it was a disaster, this is a disaster for Ole,” the former Chelsea defender said.
“This was his big moment to prove everyone including me wrong, and he’s proved me right.
“That display was enough, I’ve seen enough there to move in a different direction. I don’t see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the man for Manchester United.
“Ole is held in such high regard, he’s a lovely guy and he’s well liked, he doesn’t seem like a bad person at all, but this is a ruthless industry.
“Going into next season there is a perfect break now, this is the perfect time.”
