‘Jordan Henderson is fine now, he’s fresh’, reveals Jurgen Klopp in HUGE boost for England boss Gareth Southgate before Euro 2020 squad announcement

England boss Gareth Southgate has been handed a huge boost with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp declaring Jordan Henderson is ‘fine and fresh’ ahead of this summer’s tournament.

The Reds skipper has not played since undergoing groin surgery for an injury sustained against Everton on February 20.

However, the 30-year-old appears to have won his fitness battle at the perfect time, having returned to Liverpool’s bench for their final game of the Premier League season.

Klopp recalled Henderson to his squad for the Reds’ season closer against Crystal Palace – a 2-0 victory which sealed a remarkable third place finish and spot in next season’s Champions League.

And while the captain wasn’t called upon in the game, as he remained an unused substitute, Klopp insisted he is ready for a return to action.

“He will be fine,” Klopp told BBC when quizzed on Henderson’s fitness.

“I don’t know if he will be in the [England] squad but he is fine, he trained the last two days with us, he is fine.

“He can return to training as normal – he will be one of the few players in the squad who are fresh which is good news.”

Southgate will name a 26-man squad for the rearranged Euro 2020 tournament on Tuesday at midday, with Henderson giving himself a chance to be named after winning his fitness race.

It is a welcome boost for the Three Lions boss, who is still sweating on the fitness of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire after he suffered ankle ligament damage against Aston Villa earlier this month.

England physios remain in constant contact with representatives at Old Trafford, with Maguire set to miss the Europa League final against Villarreal in Gdansk on Wednesday.

Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope is also out of contention for the tournament as it has emerged he requires knee surgery which will rule him out for a month.
