Jose Mourinho revealed how his love affair with English football started after watching that famous game between England and Scotland at Euro 96.
The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager was at that famous game at Wembley 15 years ago.
He’d starting working for Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona and was tasked with scouting the Three Lions at the tournament.
It was there where he fell in love with English football and why he chose to move there when the chance came.
Mourinho joined talkSPORT ahead of England vs Scotland at Wembley on Friday night and spoke about his memories.
“I have to admit that was an amazing experience for me,” Mourinho told talkSPORT. “It was my first game as a spectator, my first game at Wembley. Euros. England vs Scotland. It was like falling in love with it.
“After working with Sir Bobby [Robson] and experiencing that atmosphere was a dream to work in English football.
“Maybe that game had an impact on the passion I had with English football and that’s why when I had my first chance of leaving my country and working abroad, my choice was to come to England.”
Mourinho moved to Chelsea in 2004 after winning the Champions League with Porto, winning three Premier League titles in his two spells at the club.
He also had spells at Manchester United, picking up two trophies, and finally spending 18 months at Tottenham.
