All footballers agree the game just isn’t the same without fans inside, but Sead Kolasinac would’ve felt differently for a fleeting moment during Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Molde on Thursday night.
That’s because the Gunners defender somehow missed an open goal when the scores were locked at 1-1, something that would have been met with a collective gasp and possibly some boos had the Arsenal faithful been in attendance.
He shanked the ball over after Molde keeper Andreas Linde palmed Joe Willock’s deflected cross straight into the Bosnian’s path.
Thankfully for Kolasinac and Arsenal, he was later bailed out by Molde’s Sheriff Sinyan and teammates Nicolas Pepe and Willock.
Earlier, the Norwegian side, who used to be managed by under-pressure Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, took a shock lead through Martin Ellingsen’s long-range effort.
Mikel Arteta’s side were level just before half time as Kristoffer Haugen turned the ball into his own net.
As mentioned, Kolasinac missed the sitter but his blushes would be spared ten minutes later, although Molde’s wouldn’t as Arsenal profited from another own goal by the away side.
And the contest was put beyond any doubt as Pepe swept home Bukayo Saka’s cross from the left. Willock added another on 88 minutes.
It’s a maximum nine points for Arsenal, who are top of Group B at the halfway stage of the group matches.
But this will quite possibly be remembered for Kolasinac’s shocking miss. Below you can see it in all its ‘glory’.
