Timo Werner finally scored in the Premier League again as his strike helped them go into the Premier League top four thanks to a 2-0 win over Newcastle.
The Chelsea forward was on a barren run in front of goal, having not netted in the top flight since November 7.

But that came to an end on Monday night as his close-range effort gave the Blues a two-goal lead against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
He’d have taken the ball going in-off his backside in the circumstances but the goal was a little bit better than that.
However, it was somewhat fortuitous as the ball fell to him after rebounding off Magpies defender Jamal Lascelles.
Werner still had some work to do but he managed to hook his foot round the ball and squeezed it over the line despite Karl Darlow’s efforts to scramble it away.

The German had to wait a little bit longer for the goal to be confirmed as VAR checked to see if there was an offside in the build-up. But Werner didn’t have to worry as the goal stood.
He cut a confident figure against Newcastle, having played a key role in Chelsea’s opener, which was scored by Olivier Giroud.
Werner fired in a cross from the left, which was only palmed into the Frenchman’s path as he made no mistake with the loose ball.
Giroud was only on the pitch having replaced Tammy Abraham early on, who hobbled off with an early injury following a firm challenge by Lascelles.

But Werner, 24, will be hugely relieved, having had to wait a long time to net in the league as you can see from the stats below.

The win takes Thomas Tuchel’s men to fourth spot as they leapfrogged both West Ham and Liverpool in the table.
West Ham briefly held the final Champions League spot having got the better of Sheffield United earlier on Monday.
